Strong collaboration keeps Canadian greenhouse expansion on track

Pure Flavor® is further expanding its greenhouse horticulture site in Leamington (Canada) with a third greenhouse phase covering 10 hectares. Despite challenges such as global COVID-19 restrictions, limited availability of materials and pressure on international transport, the project is proceeding according to plan.

Following the successful completion of Phase II, Pure Flavor® decided to collaborate with the same construction partners for Phase III as well. AAB INT is responsible for technical consultancy and project management.

The expansion forms part of Pure Flavor®’s growth strategy to meet the increasing demand for sustainably grown vegetables in North America. By starting preparations for Phase III whilst Phase II was still under construction, the project could be tackled efficiently and delays were minimised as far as possible.

According to Marc Vijverberg, project manager at AAB INT, a clear project organisation, thorough preparation and strong collaboration are key to the success of large-scale expansion projects. It is particularly important, in the case of phased expansions, to have a clear master plan and programme of requirements in place from the outset.

The project demonstrates just how important effective project management is in complex horticultural developments. Regular consultation between all parties involved ensures that bottlenecks are identified at an early stage and that schedules remain on track.

With the new greenhouse now operational, Pure Flavor® gains additional production capacity to meet the growing market demand for fresh vegetables during the coming winter period. At the same time, the project underlines the importance of strategic collaboration for the successful realisation of large-scale greenhouse horticulture projects.
