AAB advises on the financing of a sustainable tomato greenhouse

For the further development of Regenergy Frövi, an innovative greenhouse horticulture business in Sweden, a solid basis was required to underpin the investment plans and the technical feasibility of the project. The company operates a 10-hectare greenhouse in which residual heat from a nearby paper mill is used for year-round tomato cultivation, providing a sustainable and local alternative for the Swedish market.

Goldman Sachs engaged AAB Corporate Finance to advise on the business case, the required capital expenditure and the technical status of the project. In doing so, AAB combined financial and technical expertise to provide insight into the risks, assumptions and feasibility of the proposed expansion.

AAB’s analyses and assessments formed a key basis for a more informed financing decision. This resulted in an investment of €89 million by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, enabling the construction of a second 10-hectare greenhouse. This site will also utilise waste heat from the paper industry. The project demonstrates how technical innovations, sustainable energy utilisation and thorough investment analyses come together in the development of future-proof food production.
