Construction of Pure Flavor® Greenhouse Expansion Continues Without Delay

Full scale construction is well underway on the expansion of Pure Flavor®’s Phase II in Leamington, Ontario, CANADA. Built next to the existing (10 ha) greenhouse, a second greenhouse of 10 ha is being built with completion expected in the fall.

After site planning was started last summer, the foundation was installed in December 2019. With a 2 month break due to the winter season, erection of the steel structure started in early March. Weather continued to be a challenge this spring with lots of rain, even snow in the third week of April.

Due to the lockdown of China in January & February, the delivery of the glass for the greenhouse was delayed. Despite these difficult & unforeseeable circumstances, construction continued, and greenhouse roof has since been glazed.

During construction of the greenhouse, Canada, like many countries, instituted restrictions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Horticulture & food production has been classified as an "essential business" in Canada. This allowed the construction of greenhouses and specifically the site work at Pure Flavor® to continue during lockdown, subject to strict conditions implemented by the government. Much of the construction work is being done by local crews. This has the advantage of avoiding possible construction delays as builders & technicians from outside Canada must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival.

The engineers of AAB made the design of the greenhouse and the installations and also ensured that all disciplines matches well. AAB is also taking care of the coordination during construction of the project. Dutch greenhouse builder Havecon is responsible for the primary structure of the greenhouse, screening and heating system. Anchor Hydro, Honey Electric and Zwart Systems are responsible for the electrical and supplemental light installation, computer controls and the irrigation system.

All project partners involved in the build are making every effort to deliver this high-tech greenhouse on time.
